Kate Middleton shows off her pancake-tossing skills as Royal couple bring Belfast to a standstill with surprise visit

By Maysa Rawi

Kate Middleton added another talent to the list as she showed off her pancake-tossing skills today in Belfast.
The future Princess celebrated Shrove Tuesday by mastering the art of the flip, impressing the crowds - and Prince William - with her culinary trick.
The Royal couple are touring the UK ahead of the wedding in April and by the looks of things, there is little doubt that she is settling into her new role with confidence and ease.

And for a refreshing change, Kate opted to wear an on-trend £650 Burberry trench coat with skirt detailing, a notable contrast to the more formal attire we have seen over the last two weeks - swapping her flat boots for high-heel courts.
Perhaps Kate, 29, has been taking note of the fashion critics who have called for the future Princess to adopt an edgier, younger look.
There have already been reports that Kate has decided to have her wedding dress designed by Alexander McQueen's avant-garde protegee Sarah Burton - a welcome choice in the fashion world.

And although the rumours have been heavily denied, it seems Kate's slight but bold sartorial adjustment today is a statement that she intends to make conscious fashion decisions when it comes to her wardrobe.
Either way, she looked stunning in the neutral piece, teamed with opaque tights and sapphire engagement ring as the couple brought the centre of Belfast to a standstill.
A small crowd gathered in the bright sunshine inside the grounds of City Hall in the hope of a walkabout after police sealed off streets and diverted traffic as part of a huge security operation for the couple's first visit to Northern Ireland.

They arrived at the George Best City Airport at Sydenham, east Belfast.
The couple were met by Lord Mayor Pat Convery and Dame Mary Peters, a former Olympic pentathlon athletics champion who is now the Lord Lieutenant of Belfast.
It was the first in a series of engagements planned for the couple, who are to marry at Westminster Abbey on April 29.

The couple accepted a framed photograph of City Hall and a book on the building's architectural history.
They arrived in an eight-car cavalcade, with William and Miss Middleton in the second.
They paused for a time on the steps of the front door, acknowledging the cheering crowd, some of whom waved miniature Union Flags.

Heavily-armed police patrolled adjoining and nearby streets, and at one stage used steel rods to check litter bins close to the City Hall gates and grounds.
One officer using binoculars kept watch from the rooftop of the Robinson & Cleaver building directly opposite, and at least two others, also using binoculars, positioned themselves on the top of City Hall, just few away from the Union Flag which fluttered in a gentle breeze.

Surprise: Senior officials at the Northern Ireland Office who were involved in organising the trip did not confirm William and Kate even planned to make the visit until their aircraft landed in east Belfast

Senior officials at the Northern Ireland Office who were heavily involved with Buckingham Palace in organising the trip did not confirm William and Kate even planned to make the visit until their aircraft landed in east Belfast.
But by the time the entourage pulled up in front of City Hall, word had already leaked out because of the heavy security presence.

The 21-gun salute will follow Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding ceremony
An historic fort in Kent is to fire a 21-gun salute as part of the royal wedding celebrations for Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Fort Amherst, in Chatham, said it had been given permission by Buckingham Palace to fire the tribute at midday after the Westminster Abbey service.
The Fort Amherst Heritage Trust said it believed it was the only 21-gun salute being fired on 29 April.
The Napoleonic Fort's saluting battery is called Prince William's Battery.
The guns have not fired a salute for more than 100 years. Repairs to the brickwork are to be carried out beforehand by the Royal Engineers, who originally built the fort.
Project co-ordinator Glenn Robinson said it was one of the most exciting projects the trust had ever undertaken.
"The chance to fire a full royal salute of 21 guns is a very rare honour for a non-military organisation," he said.
The salute will be fired using five black powder cannon on gun carriages by re-enactors from the Napoleonic Association.
Fort Amherst forms part of the site put forward for World Heritage status by Medway Council.
Other attractions included in the bid are Chatham Historic Dockyard, Upnor Castle, Brompton village and barracks, the Pembroke site's former naval barracks which are now part of Medway's university campus, and the Great Lines.

Prince Charles and Prince William and Kate Middleton visit Abbey

PRINCE WILLIAM AND BRIDE’S FIRST VISIT TO ABBEY

Story Image

PRINCE William and Kate Middleton made a secret trip to Westminster Abbey last night to see a rehearsal of the music that will be played at their wedding.
It was thought to be the Royal couple’s first joint visit to the building where they will walk down the aisle on April 29.
They spent an hour-and-a-quarter inside the Abbey. Prince Charles joined them for the performance to help them make a final choice of music for their great day. They arrived at 8pm and were sneaked into the Abbey via a back gate in Prince William’s father’s dark-blue Jaguar, leaving via the same gate at 9.15pm.
A royal insider said William and Kate were in London last night especially for the performance.
The source, close to the Royal couple, commented: “They looked relaxed and seemed to enjoy themselves. They are obviously very keen that everything should be right on the big day.”
A full orchestra practised for an hour-and-a-half-before William, Kate and Charles arrived.

About a dozen young choristers wearing black velvet cloaks paraded into the Abbey in formation.
A senior royal source said: “William and Kate listened to some of the music that will be played at the wedding, but not all of it.
He confirmed that part of the reason for the couple’s visit last night was to choose which music would finally be used and which they wanted to discard. He said: “That was part of the process.
“The orchestra also had a few pieces that they had wanted the bride and groom to hear.”
He revealed that Prince Charles had advised the couple on their choice of music.

Duchess of Cornwall helping getting her granddaughter ready for Wedding

THE Duchess of Cornwall has been reading a bedtime story to her granddaughter to prepare her for her role as a royal bridesmaid.
Camilla told yesterday how she is training three-year-old Eliza Lopes by reading her Angelina And The Royal Wedding from the Angelina Ballerina series, which chronicles the adventures of a performing mouse.
Eliza, the eldest of three children born to Camilla’s daughter Laura and her husband Harry Lopes, will be one of five bridesmaids and two page boys at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding on April 29.
Whether the book will relax Eliza or make her more anxious about her role remains to be seen. The plot describes how Angelina is so busy she forgets she is a bridesmaid and almost misses the big day.
